ein lieber new york urlauber hat mir teile seiner sonntagsausgabe der new york times geschickt. es ist ja schon sehr cool, diese weltbekannte zeitung mal in der eigenen badewanne zu genießen.
unter anderem gab es darin ein porträt über jim jarmusch zu lesen. wir sind ja besitzer der jarmusch-filmkollektion und haben praktisch alle seiner langsamen, oft plotfreien, häufig dialogarmen werke gesehen. mr. jarmusch (so nennt ihn die new york times) hat einen neuen film gedreht – the limits of control.
im porträt – der ganze artikel ist sprachlich wirklich schön formuliert – betont er, wie wichtig das reisen für seine kreativität und seine arbeit ist. sein erster film trägt ja auch den titel permanent vacation. jedenfall heißt es im artikel: "his career, while not exactly a permanent vacation, has been consecrated to the romance of wanderlust und and the possibilities of cross-cultural exchange." jarmuch selbst sagt: "the oldest narrative in the world is the journey". und: "being in a place where you don’t understand certain things is really inspiring for your imagination."
the limits of control selbst soll ähnlichkeiten mit dead man aufweisen, dem film aus dem jahr 1995 mit johnny depp. für mich interessanterweise fast der am schwierigsten zu konsumierende jarmusch.
